How to reach Heraklion

The symposium village, Hersonissos, is situated about 25 km east of the city of Heraklion and can be reached by bus or taxi from the Heraklion airport or harbour.

Heraklion is directly connected to Athens International Airport with about 10 domestic flights daily run by Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. There are also other direct scheduled airline connections from major European cities as well as many charter flights from most European countries.

Alternatively, one can use the ferry-boat connecting Heraklion with the harbour of Piraeus (Athens). Connection is offered by Minoan Lines, ANEK Lines & Superfast Ferries and the overnight trip takes about 7 hours.

How to reach Hersonissos and the SYMPOSIUM Hotel

By Air

When you arrive at the Heraklion airport, transfer to the Conference site is possible by:

• Taxi:
  The approximate fare from Heraklion Airport is 35,00€.
• Public bus to Hersonissos (KTEL):
  Public Bus Service every 30 minutes from the airport exit.
  Last bus to Hersonissos departs at 22:00 hrs.
  Price: 3,00€
  Journey time: about 30 min.

By Boat

When you arrive at the Heraklion harbour, you may walk to the Public Bus Station which is within walking distance. From there, buses depart to Hersonissos, every half hour.
The first bus departs at 06:30 hrs and the last one at 22:00 hrs.

Shuttle Buses

We kindly inform all ESOC2011 participants that on Sunday 10th at there will be a FREE shuttle-bus service for the transport of participants and spouses from Heraklion "Nikos Kazantzakis" International airport to the Creta Maris Conference Centre.

As soon as you arrive at the airport, please look for the ESOC staff with the sign: "ESOC2011", to guide you to or look for the coach with the "ESOC2011" sign, parked at the Airport Coach car-park in front of the arrivals exit.

Departure times from the airport are scheduled only for Sunday July 10 at:

09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00.

For arrivals outside these hours please use either the Public bus Services running through the airport every half hour or take a taxi (average cost 35 Euro).

Where to get off the bus

To reach the Creta Maris Hotel & Conference Center, in Hersonissos as well as the other hotels listed in the web page, the official bus stop is the one situated next to the “Medical Center” on the outskirts of Hersonissos.

Creta Maris Hotel & Conference Center

Once you get off the bus you should follow the road towards the sea and turn left at the first crossroads and then continue to the bottom of the road where you will reach the Creta Maris Hotel. There will be signage pointing towards the Conference Center once you enter the gates of the Creta Maris Hotel.

Albatros, Hersonissos Palace, Hersonissos Hotel, Klery Studios, Aris Sudios

Once you get off the bus you should follow the road towards the sea and turn left at the first crossroads and then take a right turn into the second street before reaching the Creta Maris Hotel. All the above hotels are situated one after the other in order of the sequence written above.

Maragakis & Thalia Hotel

The second bus stop in Hersonissos is the stop for reaching these hotels. The Maragakis Hotel is situated next to the “Police Station” and the Thalia Hotel is situated on the main road of Hersonissos above the tourist shop “Back to Nature”
